Traditional Calligraphy online course

- workshop notes & info

Hi everyone and welcome to the Traditional Calligraphy online course..

On this page you will find everything you need for your course. I have started with ‘which pen’ as you’ll need a pen before you start! Then ‘which paper’, ‘how to hold your pen’ and then the lowercase notes and practice sheets. I will go through the correct way to hold your pen in the first lesson, so only watch the video if you feel like it.

Please whatsapp me if anything doesn’t make sense or you need some help (Robyn +27(0)76 235 6563)

What do I need for my course..?

  • Calligraphy Pen

    • Either a calligraphy fountain pen with either a 1.5mm nib (or M) or a 1.9mm nib (or B) - look at the flat metal part of the nib to see the number or letter to know what size your pen is, or send me a pic!

    • OR a calligraphy marker (size 2mm - it may also say 20 on the lid)

  • Printed notes (see below)

  • Printed practice sheets in the appropriate size for your pen - 1.5mm nib (or M) or a 1.9mm nib (or B)

  • Paper - for my classes I’m happy for you to use a lined school book, or exam pad. If you have some better quality paper, e.g. Rhodia, then that is better, but not essential

Which pen do I need...?
Which paper should I use?

I’d suggest that you watch this video before you start watching the recorded lessons.. watch both if you are left handed
