Hello...!  If you want to learn a new skill, have a stationery addiction, like laughing a lot and enjoy really good coffee, then you're definitely in the right place!  Don't worry if you think you're 'not creative' - believe me, you'll be fine!  You do not need to be especially creative or artistic to do calligraphy - commitment and perseverance are far more important.  It takes a lot of discipline to learn, and the key to good results is lots of practice.

Calligraphy, from the Greek kalligraphia (from kalli- beautiful  + -graphia -graphy) is the art of beautiful writing, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

How does it all work?  What if I can't come every week?  What if I'm terrible at calligraphy...?  All these questions and more are answered on the FAQ page. I also offer Handwriting Coaching for adults and kids as a separate service, and this is completely different to my calligraphy and hand lettering courses.

Please note, I do not do commission work and only TEACH courses and workshops

What is Traditional Calligraphy?

Writing in a traditional calligraphy style involves using a pen with a special nib, or a dipping pen with a flattened, rounded, or pointed nib.  The different styles require different nibs (e.g. gothic black letter requires a flat ended nib whereas copperplate would require an extremely pointed, flexible nib).

What is Hand Lettering?

Hand lettering (which includes brush lettering) is a lot less structured than traditional calligraphy, and it is often referred to as 'modern calligraphy'.  Hand lettering is typically done with brush markers, gel pens, fine liners and metallic markers. You have a lot more flexibility with the way that you write the letters, and it definitely has a more contemporary and fun look and feel.

About Robyn

I've been teaching Calligraphy on and off for the past 20 years. I am passionate about teaching, and what makes me the most happy is when I see a student getting in touch with their creative side, especially when they think they're not creative. Calligraphy, in it's various forms, is perfect for all of us... if you can write and hold a pen, you can do calligraphy!

I did my calligraphy course over 20 years ago, and since then I'm mostly self taught.

In addition to teaching calligraphy and hand lettering, I am also a handwriting coach and have helped many people (especially kids) overcome their handwriting issues.
