Traditional Calligraphy Online Course

Hi, and welcome to an overview of the Traditional Calligraphy Online Course… this overview will explain what you can expect from the course, and how its broken down into different lessons.

What is traditional calligraphy…?

I teach the Italic hand which is an older more traditional style of calligraphy, and is quite different to the modern styles of calligraphy like brush lettering. If you are not sure about the different styles of calligraphy, then have a quick look here

Do I need a special pen…?

You will need a calligraphy pen or marker for this course, so have a look here if you are not sure what a calligraphy pen is, or which one to get.

I’ve tried traditional calligraphy on my own and it did not go well.. why will this course be different?

The most important part of traditional calligraphy is getting the nib angle right.. after that we work on letter formation, letter spacing, and then word spacing. Most people don’t spend enough time getting these steps right, or they don’t know how to use the pen properly and then they just give up…

This is where I come in… I’ll help you to learn how to hold your pen correctly, and to master the nib angle.. then we will move on to the lowercase alphabet, and progress to words and uppercase letters as well as a little bit of layout.

Here’s what’s included in the online course:

• 4 recorded zoom lessons (1 hour each)

• Lesson 1: Correct pen grip, nib angle and the first part of the lowercase alphabet

• Lesson 2: The rest of the lowercase alphabet and how to create words

• Lesson 4: The uppercase alphabet
